Computing
At Dymchurch, we aim to equip our children with fundamental computing skills that will support them at Secondary school and in later life. We use the Purple Mash scheme of work which provides our children with a well balanced and realistic set of skills to tackle the demands of the digital world.
Purple Mash is an award-winning cross curricular website for primary school children, enabling them to explore and enhance their knowledge in a fun and creative way. Hosted online and compatible with all tablets and computers, it delivers an exciting mash-up of curriculum focused activities, creative tools, programs and games. This cross curricular platform engages children with maths, spelling and grammar games as well as hundreds of themed writing projects, from coding to spreadsheets and game design to blogging (plus everything in between).
Purple Mash enables positive online behaviours, providing a safe way for children to learn to email, blog and express themselves online.
Visit the link below and explore Purplemash with your child: they login the same way as if we were at school.
All skills and topics covered in our curriculum can be found in the documentation below.
Computing Long Term Plan
Computing Skills Progression
Our ICT intent:
- To help children develop their digital literacy.
- To familiarise children with the language used in computing.
- To help children identify the dangers they face when using the internet.
- To enable children to safely report any issues when using ICT equipment in school and at home.
- To understand effective ways to find information using the internet.
- To gain an understanding of coding – Python and Binary are both used as part of PurpleMash.
