Go Team Dymchurch!

Last week we continued our busy sports schedule by taking 4 teams from Year three to Year six to compete at the Kent School Games Handball Qualifier. We were excited to be using our school mini bus for the second time! After a long drive to Folkestone, we arrived and the children began warming up. It was clear that there was some tough competition from the other schools and that every member of the team would need to work hard if they wanted to earn a place in the final.

We began with both teams winning their first 3 games against the other schools. Team B continued their winning streak and worked very hard to complete the first round undefeated. Unfortunately our other team came up against some very skilled teams and were unable to pull back, leaving them just out of the finals. Our B team competed against a very fast team from Elham. There were goals left, right and centre from both teams and we narrowly missed out on the gold medal by 2 goals! An exciting tournament for our Y3 & 4 children, finishing in 2nd and 5th place. Player of the tournament went to Will in Y4 for truely outstanding goalkeeping.

3 o'clock meant it was time for our Y5 & 6 children to take to the courts. They started very similarly to our Y3 & 4 children, winning their first 3 games. Again, our girls showed excellent effort and determination to take on the boys and show themselves as true team players. Team B won 4 out of 5 games which saw them through to the finals and Team A won 3 out of 5 which left them just missing out.

The final - Dymchurch took on an undefeated Sandgate, it was a very fast game again and our team held their own. With only 7 minutes to show what they could do they really put all their effort in to this final game. Unfortunately, they just missed out on a gold medal by 2 goals, finishing 4-2 to Sandgate.

Well done to all of our players, it was fantastic to take so many children to compete in such a fast-paced and fun sport.

Basketball – Kent School Games Qualifiers

Tonight we took 13 children to FSC to take part in the Kent School Games Basketball Qualifiers – it was our first trip out in our school mini bus!

The children worked really hard, with lots of our girls showing that they’re made out of tough stuff! They had to learn the importance of working as a team and scored several baskets throughout the evening, Team 2 took 2nd place in their group and Team 1 took 3rd place in their group which meant that both teams just missed out on the semi-finals!

Well done to all the children, especially the girls for working so hard!

Special mention to Freddie and Tegan, our players of the tournament!

Multi Skills Competition

In December, we took all of Year 2 and some Year 1 children to the Marsh Academy to take part in the Shepway Multi Skills competition. The children had to take part in 10 different events that tested their power, strength, balance, speed, agility and accuracy in different ways. It was a long afternoon and the children had a fantastic afternoon out. We even took 3rd Place out of 12 teams!

School Games Crew

In November 16 of our Y5 & 6 pupils trained to be playmakers as part of the ‘School Games Crew’. They had to devise games and activities for children from YR up to Y6. They had to share ideas and understand the values of the school games (Respect, Determination, Teamwork, Honesty, Self-Belief & Passion. The School Games Crew will be leading events for the younger children throughout the year. They have already led and refereed the inter-house sports for Y2 & 3 at the beginning of 2017 and have shown excellent leadership skills while doing this.

Basketball Leagues

Our Y4, 5 & 6 children took part in the Shepway Sports Trust Elite & Development Basketball Leagues at the local sports centre in December. They had to work in teams to win as many games as possible and understand the value of teamwork as we were playing some very talented teams!

Team A took a well-earned 3rd Place in League 1 with Team B taking 4th Place in League 2.

Over the last few weeks, our Year 4 and 6 children have had the opportunity to take part in the bikeability scheme. Level 1 allows the children the chance to show that they are safe on their bikes and know how to ride them. Level 2a & b is road based and allows the children to demonstrate that they can be safe on the road while riding their bikes.

Well done to all the children who took this fantastic opportunity and to those children who passed their Level 1 and Level 2!

Last week ten of our Year 4 children took to the fields of Brockhill School to run in the Shepway Cross Country Competition. The children had to run a 1000m track in their year groups, in much cooler conditions than the Y5 & 6 children in previous weeks.

The boys ran a very competitive race, with Dan, Josh and Louis in 1st, 2nd and 3rd for 3/4 of the course. The girls ran well against the other schools, claiming 12th, 21st, 24th and 25th positions out of 35. In the end, the boys took 2nd, 5th, 6th and 12th place out of 40 runners - an admirable effort all round!

Well done to our runners - we are very proud of you!

Last week we took 13 children to the Marsh Academy to take part in the FA football skills afternoon. The children were given the opportunity to play several fun but competitive games against other schools and were given advise on how to improve their performance inbetween games.

Well done to all of the children that took part and to our girls who showed that they are budding footballers in the making!
