This term KS1 pupils and staff have been fortunate enough to receive professional coaching in gymnastics. Over the last four weeks, they have been learning to use different equipment to help them jump, climb, cartwheel, complete forward and backward rolls as well as handstands.
This week, Year 2 were challenged to see how far up the rope they could climb and to use growth mindset to get a bit further each time.
Well done to Gemma, Blake and Jack who all worked incredibly hard to improve their efforts each time. A huge congratulations to Gemma who managed to reach the top 3 times! These children were awarded their Dymchurch 'Believe' stickers and their School Games 'Determination' wristbands.
Last week was our first sports competition of the new academic year. We took 10 children from Y5 and 6 to represent Dymchurch Primary at the Shepway School Games Cross Country event.
The children had to run a gruelling 1600m course, following the hare around each of the bends until they finally reached the finish line.
Our team were amazing and gave the best mixed team performance that we have seen in a long time in this sport.
Congratulations to Zac in Year 6 who took 2nd place in his race, narrowly missing out on 1st in the last few metres!
Well done to Zac, Jack, Jed, Luke, Callum, Tatjana, Katie, Faye, Grace & Ben (from Bodsham who joined our team) for a fantastic performance - we are very proud of you!
This year we have allocated some of our sports premium funding to put on after-school sports clubs for children across both key stages.
Years 1 & 2 have been enjoying learning archery and gymnastics while Years 3-6 have had the opportunity to try fencing, multi-sports and football!
We've had a great start to our sports activities already this year with more than 90 children from Year 2 to Year 6 signing up to represent their house teams in the Inter-House Handball tournament.
Games are played on Wednesday lunchtimes with house captains and Year 6 children taking active roles in managing their teams - developing great leadership skills.
The teachers have been keeping a close eye to see which children have been demonstrating our sporting values. 20 children have already been awarded sports wristbands in the first few weeks and we are keen to give out many more!
Ask your child if they are playing handball for their house team.

Week 1: Lympne 15, Hever 14. Dover 9, Leeds 4.
Week 2: Lympne 12, Hever 10. Dover 9, Hever 9.

Sports Week 2016 was rounded off with the entire school from EYFS to Year 6 (including all of the staff), taking part in our Race for Life event.
The children ran in their house groups to tackle both fields as many times as their legs could take them.
At the end of the race each child recieved their own medal which they wore proudly throughout the afternoon. Well done to everyone for taking part and raising money for such an amazing charity.
A fantastic end to the week!
On Thursday we held our 2016 School Games Day for KS1 & KS2.
The children started the morning on the top field and took part in 8 different activities including penalty shootout, long jump, handball agility, obstacle course, hockey slalom, javelin, speed stacking and basketball shootout. They had to work hard as a team and individually to earn points for their house team.
They also earned points for effort and good sportsmanship at each event.
After the sports events, the children took to the bottom field to compete in a range of different races including sack race, egg & spoon, flat race, house relays, dress up race and the 400m race.
The children had a fantastic day, with many children dripping in metallic stickers from their races!
Well done to all of our children, helpers and staff for making it such a fantastic day and to the parents that took part in the Parent Race.
CONGRATULATIONS TO DOVER HOUSE - SPORTS DAY WINNERS 2016
Sports Week 2016 started with Y6 taking control and leading the Y1-Y3 multi skills afternoon.
Each year group was split in to 3 teams, named after an animated character, and then took part in 9 different activities that tested their speed, strength, agility, power and accuracy throughout the afternoon.
A huge congratulations to our Y6 children who showed amazing leadership skills and made it an enjoyable event for all of the children.
On Tuesday, the entire school took part in an intra-school challenge to score as many baskets as they could in 1 minute. This time we had our Y5 playmakers running the event; making sure that the children always had a ball to keep shooting as many baskets as possible!
Luke in Y4 achieved the highest total this year with 38 baskets in 1 minute.
A huge thank you to our Y5 playmakers who showed great leadership skills throughout the afternoon.
Over the last two weeks we have taken 22 children from across KS2 to compete in the SST Kwik Cricket leagues at Hythe and Saltwood Cricket Clubs. Each week our two teams tried to score as many runs as possible and bowl against the opposition in order to win their games.
After the second week, the results were announced with Dymchurch 2 taking 2nd place and Dymchurch 1 taking 3rd place in their leagues.
Not only did we rank in each of the leagues, but Jack in Y5 was awarded a medal for effort and determination throughout the tournament.
