This term in maths we have been learning about place value. This includes rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100 or 1000, Comparing and ordering numbers, counting in 1000s and 25s and learning about negative numbers. We will use our knowledge of partitioning when adding and subtracting upto 4-digit numbers later on this term.
In English, our class reader is The Wreck of the Zanzibar by Michael Morpurgo. We have written diary entries and persuasive letters. We have included the historic knowledge we have gained from reading a book that was set over 100 years ago. The children have really engrossed themselves in our new scheme of Reading Plus and are lucky enough to get the opportunity to use the programme daily.
Our topic this term is the Romans, which fits nicely with our class country of Italy. The children have been learning about when the Romans invaded Britain and they have made some fabulous mosaics.
Our PE is gymnastics and handball. We are also focussing on basic skills and team work.
For science week we are learning about animals, including humans. The main focus of our learning will be the human disgestive system and teeth.
